Dr Anastasia Pournou is a Professor in the Department of CAWA of the University of West Attica. She graduated from the same Dept. in 1994 and completed her Ph.D. in 1999 at the University of Portsmouth. She teaches the undergraduate courses “Conservation of Wooden artefacts”, “Conservation of Organic Materials” and “Elements of Biology and principles of Biodeterioration “, as well as postgraduate courses at the University of Athens and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
She specializes in the conservation of wooden objects of Cultural Heritage, the biogenic deterioration of wood in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and the diagnosis of wood decay by physicochemical techniques.
She is also involved in the preparation of standards in the field of Cultural Heritage Preservation and since 2007 coordinates the relevant Technical Committee of ELOT TE/ 96.
Prof. Pournou has an important number of publications related to the conservation, preservation and protection of wooden Cultural Heritage and a respective number of citations.She has peer reviewed many national and European research proposals, as well as several scientific articles.
